our standard T... with a twist

#1

We don't see the point in churning out yet another version of a classic guitar design. If you want faithful replicas, there are plenty of other companies building  those types of guitars.

We see our T-type as a chance to own a unique version of a classic guitar, so our standard T-type is all about being able to take a classic and make it your own. Its hallmarks are a flat top and back, with or without a figured top, and completely customisable pick-up options... and of course our house banana headstock.

All our T-Type No 1 guitars are unique instruments and  individually priced, starting at around £1295 for a new T-Type No 1 shape guitar in a solid wood body including a single humbucker pick-up in the bridge position, or from £1495 with either two humbuckers or two single-coil pickups.

Our T bodies are normally made from Cherry, Alder, London Plane, Ash, Walnut or Mahogany / Sapele, with more expensive woods and figured tops adding to the base cost of the instrument.

All our T No 1 guitars come fitted with top quality UK designed pickups from some of the best producers on the market and there are options to choose custom necks, body woods, wiring, hardware and wood finishes.

The Bourns pots we fit generally have less friction in their action than the CTS pots - if you prefer a freer moving throw for live playing, choose Bourns, if you want a slower moving action, choose CTS.

Gowen T No. 1 prototype in Paulownia, H-H

Model History

The 2018 Gowen T we built for Lucy Gowen in Paulownia was our first ever prototype guitar. It weighed just 2.5Kg and had neck and bridge high output humbuckers. This guitar is now owned by singer Emma Marie of Colorado USA.

Since then we've built Ts with both humbuckers and single coils to order, in a huge variety of woods.

In 2020 we began using more decorative, figured top woods, combined with visually contrasting body woods.

In 2026 we plan to launch our own line of single coil pickups.
