Early-1970s inspired high-output humbucker. UK-built 14k bridge pickup designed for stronger drive, paired with a balanced 9.5k neck option.
Gowen 72-75 PAF+
Based on the higher-output humbuckers that emerged in the early 1970s, as players began pushing amplifiers harder and demanding more from their guitars. The Gowen 72–75 bridge pickup is overwound using plain enamel wire and an Alnico 5 magnet, producing significantly higher output than a traditional PAF-style design. The result is a stronger signal, increased midrange, and greater drive into the front of an amplifier.
For a balanced two-pickup configuration, the 14k bridge pairs well with a lower-output neck pickup such as a 9.5k wind based on our Gowen 57–59 humbucker, maintaining consistent volume while preserving clarity in the neck position. Together, this combination provides a clear neck tone, a full and driven bridge sound, and a usable combined position.
Designed, developed and custom-wound in the United Kingdom, the Gowen 72–75 epitomises the early years of early hard rock.
